On 19 July 2026, the inaugural ceremony of the Queensland Chinese Affairs Committee was held at Tattersall’s Club in Brisbane. Melinda Gao and Nancy Wang attended the event on behalf of W & G Lawyers, joining guests from government, business, community organisations and multicultural groups to witness this meaningful milestone for the community.
The event brought together more than 200 guests from across Queensland. It marked not only an important moment in the development of the Chinese community in Queensland, but also reflected the growing connection between the Chinese community, government bodies, local businesses and other multicultural communities.
During the ceremony, the founding President of the Queensland Chinese Affairs Committee, Mr Yongxin Zhuang, spoke about the vision behind the Committee, its community mission and its future direction. He also shared a number of community initiatives undertaken during the preparation stage. In the presence of distinguished guests, Mr Zhuang and the Honourable Fiona Simpson, Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Minister for Multiculturalism, officially unveiled the Committee, marking the formal commencement of the Queensland Chinese Affairs Committee.
Representatives from federal, state and local government, the Chinese Consulate-General in Brisbane, and other multicultural communities also attended and delivered speeches. They congratulated the Committee on its establishment and expressed their hopes for its future role in strengthening community engagement, cultural exchange and participation in public affairs.
The event also featured sponsor acknowledgements, cultural performances, an auction and a lucky draw, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere. Guests from diverse backgrounds had the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas, reflecting the openness, inclusiveness and mutual support of Queensland’s multicultural society.
