Stepping Into The Legal Profession
I enjoyed my placement at W & G Lawyers. This was my first experience working in a law firm and appreciated learning from the W & G Team. Nancy and Melinda are great role models as both business leaders and lawyers. Nancy is energetic, extremely knowledgeable and always willing to assist. Melinda is extremely knowledgeable, tech-savy and cares about her clients.
W & G is a great place to complete a placement as you are exposed to many different types of law. I was provided with an induction manual which I could refer to throughout my placement which was incredibly helpful. My responsibilities ranged from legal research, reviewing court documents, listening to court proceedings, telephone enquiries and drafting documents and advice. I learned so much about a variety of matters and learned to use legal software which will be invaluable when applying for future legal positions.
The Most Valuable Lesson I Learned
The law can be complex, requires attention to detail and tailoring to the client’s needs. It is important to realise the value of having a team around you with varying levels of skills and knowledge to utilise when needed.
Advice for Future PLT Students
While starting out can be overwhelming, keep trying and enjoy learning along the way. Ask for help if you need it and be kind to yourself.
