National Minimum Wage Increase: Key Changes from July 2025

The National Minimum Wage has increased as of 1st July 2025 , offering improved pay for Australian workers. These changes will have a significant impact on employees’ earnings, and it’s essential to understand how they may affect both workers and employers.

Key Changes to the National Minimum Wage:

  • New Rates:
    • $948 per week (based on a 38-hour week for full-time employees)
    • $24.95 per hour

This represents a 3.5% increase from the previous rates of $915.90 per week and $24.10 per hour.

  • Casual Workers: Casual employees entitled to the National Minimum Wage will now receive $31.19 per hour, which includes a 25% casual loading.
  • Award Employees: Employees covered by industry and occupational awards will see the same 3.5% increase in their minimum wage rates. Approximately 20.7% of Australian employees are paid according to these award rates.

Impact and Compliance:

  • For Employers: Employers must ensure their workers’ pay complies with the new minimum wage rates to avoid potential legal issues. Timely updates to payroll systems are necessary to meet these obligations.
