At W & G Lawyers, we believe that effective legal support requires more than legal expertise—it requires empathy, understanding, and genuine human connection. As we mark 25 years of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), we are proud to share the why behind our commitment to mental wellbeing.
Both our Principal Solicitor Melinda Wen Gao and Director Nancy Wang have completed Mental Health First Aid training. They firmly believe that mental health is not just important—it’s essential. Supporting our clients and our team through both logical and emotional challenges is part of who we are.
Melinda: “Many of my clients come to me in crisis—coping with separation, domestic violence, or the emotional toll of family breakdown. While my role is to guide them through the legal system, it’s just as important to recognise when they need emotional support. That’s why I completed MHFA training.”
Nancy: “My business clients are known for their decisiveness and success, but I also see the stress behind the scenes. The constant pressure to stay on top and be at their best can be overwhelming. MHFA training has helped me build empathy and better support my clients through those demanding times.”
Through MHFA, Melinda and Nancy have gained the skills to:
- Recognise early signs of mental health distress,
- Respond with care and professionalism, and
- Connect clients with the right support services.
This knowledge is now embedded into how we practise law—especially in sensitive areas like family law, where empathy is just as critical as legal advice.
We proudly stand with Mental Health First Aid International and the 1.5 million Mental Health First Aiders around the world who are making meaningful conversations possible.
If you or someone you know is facing a difficult time, we’re here to help—legally and compassionately.
